The 3DR Location One is an upgraded version of legacy Location One multi-constellation GNSS powered by the uBlox M9N module. This smart device is based on the ArduPilot APPeriph CAN peripheral firmware.
Key Enhancements in the Latest Revision:
Improved RM3100 Z-Axis Protection:
- The sensitive Z-axis coil of the RM3100 magnetometer is now protected against common sources of physical damage, improving reliability in field operations.
Upgraded Backup Battery Circuit:
- A new battery offers up to one month of warm-start retention, ensuring fast GNSS acquisition after power loss. The battery maintains full capacity even after multiple charge cycles.
PPS Output Enhancement:
- The PPS (Pulse Per Second) output is now MOSFET-driven with level-selectable logic, offering improved signal integrity and compatibility across systems.
Expanded U-blox Interface Access:
- External interrupt, safe boot, and D_SEL pads from the u-blox GNSS module are now accessible, allowing for advanced control and integration.
Full TVS Input Protection:
- All input voltage rails are now protected with TVS (Transient Voltage Suppression) diodes, providing robust defense against voltage spikes and ESD.
Additional STM32 Serial Port Pads:
- Optional TX2/RX2 pads are now available from the STM32 microcontroller, expanding serial communication capabilities for developers.
STM32 BOOT0 Pad Added:
- Enables in-circuit firmware upgrades and flexible boot control for development and debugging.
Selectable I2C/CAN Standalone Mode:
- With this new mode, the DPS368 barometer and RM3100 magnetometer can be exposed to the I2C bus, enabling greater compatibility in standalone I2C systems.
Designed for all DroneCAN compatible platforms.
Location One is not just a u-Blox chip populated on a purple reference GNSS board design. Patch antennas won't work by themselves, they require a proper ground plane to achieve maximum performance and assure good reception at any angle. The Location One ground plane and RF circuitry might look the same as other options, but we work very hard to give you that extra ~15% performance.
